Reindeer-o-saurus Crochet Pattern

Hooked for the Holidays Day 5

Day 5 brings you a classic red nose reindeer… as a dinosaur. This crochet pattern works up super quick and is no sew! The Reindeer-o-saurus makes the perfect stocking stuffer or bag charm. It’s worked in one piece, from the tail to the head. Give the dinosaur lover in your life this unique squishy take on the prehistoric animals!

Materials

Abbreviations

This pattern is written in US Terms and worked in continuous rounds.

  • MR - magic ring

  • sc - single crochet

  • inc - increase

  • dec - invisible decrease

  • cc - color change

  • sl st - slip stitch

  • mBOB - mini bobble (4 loops on hook)

  • hdc - half double crochet

  • FO - fasten off

Let’s Begin!

Body

Make in light brown, starting with the tail

  • R1: 4sc in MR (4)

  • R2: 4sc (4)

  • R3: (1sc, inc) x 2 (6)

  • R4: 2sc, 3inc, 1sc (9)

  • R5: 2sc, (1sc, inc) x 3, 1sc (12)

  • R6: 2sc, (2sc, inc) x 3, 1sc (15)

  • R7: 13sc, mBOB, 1sc (15)

  • R8: 2sc, mBOB, 12sc (15)

  • R9: 4sc, (1sc, inc) x 4, 3sc (19)

  • R10: 19sc (19)

  • R11: 4sc, (2sc, inc) x 4, 3sc (23)

  • R12 - R13: 23 sc (23) (2 rounds)

    • Stuff tail firmly and start stuffing body.

  • R14: 4sc, (2sc, dec) x 4, 3sc (19)

    • In the next two rounds, make sure your mBOBs line up with the first two. Due to tension, you may need to adjust where they are placed by a stitch or two.

  • R15: 4sc, (1sc, dec) x 4, 1sc, mBOB, 1sc (15)

  • R16: 3sc, mBOB, 11sc (15)

  • R17: 4sc, 5 dec, 1sc (10)

    • Firmly stuff the body.

  • R18 - R19: sc around (10) (2 rounds)

  • R20: (2sc, dec) x 2, 2sc (8)

    • In the next round, make the mBOB in Red.

  • R21: 5sc, mBOB, 2sc (8)

    • Insert eyes between R18-19, approximately 6 stitches apart. Finish stuffing head.

  • R22: dec around (4)

    • FO and leave a tail to close the remaining gap. Pull remaining yarn tail through the middle of the head to pull flat.

Antlers (Make 2)

  • Attach cream yarn with a sl st to R18 behind the eye. Ch 5, starting in second chain from hook: 2 sl st.

  • Ch 3, starting in second chain from hook: 2 sl st, sl st back into original ch.

  • 2 sl st into original ch, sl st back into the body.

  • FO and hide ends.

  • Repeat on other side.

Spikes

  • Attach dark brown yarn to R5 with a sl st, 2 hdc in the same stitch, 2 sl st

  • ([2 hdc in the same stitch], 2 sl st) x 4 (or until you reach the round before the antlers)

  • FO and hide ends.
